IMPACT ACROSS THE
CHANNEL ISLANDS

Littlefeet Environmental has been actively removing marine pollution from public beaches, coastal pathways, and rural corridors in Jersey since 2012. We have hosted over 350 community beach cleans to remove mismanaged commercial waste and fishing gear to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our shared coastal and marine environments. In 2018, Littlefeet Environmental created the BIG Channel Islands Beach Clean which established a pan island partnership between Jersey and other islands within the English Channel. This now annual event has brought together hundreds of volunteers and like-minded organisations to bring awareness to the environmental hazards posed by marine pollution in our watercourses and oceans.

We endeavour to host regular beach cleans but as you can appreciate, Mother Nature likes to throw us a curveball or two, and with one of the largest tidal ranges in the world, we need to respect Jersey’s tides. The details of each upcoming event are posted to our social media pages usually three (3) days in advance. All you need to do is turn up with some suitable outerwear, closed-toe shoes and a good spirit and we’ll provide the rest. Collection bins, reusable gloves, sharps boxes, risk assessments and a first-aid kit are available to all volunteers. Littlefeet Environmental also holds full public liability insurance.

In conducting beach cleans we are not only targeting harmful marine pollution but are also contributing data to other island conservation initiatives – sightings, strandings and any obscure findings are recorded and actively shared in local interest groups for review and discussion. Years on, beach cleaning has become a part of island life, with members of the public actively picking up litter while walking their dogs or enjoying time with family on the beach. It has also become an enjoyable way for businesses to meet their value-based and impactful CSR objectives and ESG targets. We are also delighted to be able to support local students, who have become environmental ambassadors in their community, with the completion of their Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) award volunteer hours.
