ABOUT US
Littlefeet Environmental was established in February 2008 as an environmental consultancy firm in Jersey, Channel Islands and was designated as a registered NPO in November 2011. Since then, Littlefeet Environmental has worked with individuals, schools, businesses, and other not-for-profit organisations to promote marine and coastal protection through both local and global community collaboration. We encourage our network of passionate volunteers to continue to build and contribute to a sustainable future by thinking globally and acting locally.
In 2012, we started rallying residents to assist in weekly beach clean activities to reduce the pressures being placed on our coastal and marine environments. As of 31 December 2024, Littlefeet Environmental and its network of committed volunteers have managed to remove over twelve tonnes of marine pollution from Jersey’s waters and natural areas.
Globally, Littlefeet Environmental’s management team have a keen interest in sea turtle conservation and have established projects using this flagship species as an indicator of environmental health. Having previously worked on sea turtle conservation initiatives throughout Latin America, the team established the Costa Maya Turtle Project in 2013. This pilot initiative is based in Quintana Roo, Mexico and is overseen by our colleague, Mr Roberto Herrera of El Colegio de la Frontera Sur (ECOSUR). Our aim was to collate data on sea turtle populations within three key and previously unstudied areas of Mexico including the Xcalak National Reef Park, the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, and the Banco Chinchorro Biosphere Reserve. All surveyed sites were located within the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second-largest coral reef ecosystem in the world. All project undertakings were conducted under permits granted by the Comisión Nacional de Áreas Naturales Protegidas in Mexico (CONANP).
The project remains ongoing and our first academic journal, presenting our findings/recommendations for the sea turtle populations within these key areas over the last ten years is expected to be published imminently.
